The Next Chapter Of My Blog

I'm not sure how I want to structure these blog posts if I'm being completely honest. I know that I want to write them throughout the month (unlike how I've been writing my month recaps for October and November of 2023) and I certainly want them to be more lyrical. The past recaps fell into a rhythm of I did this and I did that and this other thing happened.

I guess, maybe, my desire is to create more of a journal entry. Maybe journey entry isn't quite the right title because to me a journey entry is private and written only to be read by the writer or years down the line by generations who did not know the writer.

Maybe the word I'm looking for is letter

Yes, that feels right to me. We grow up learning about famous artists from generations past through journal entries (generations who did not personally know the writer reading a private journal is I believe fine with me) and from their letters

There are numerous books compiling together the letters of great artists that have been published over time giving insight not only into the daily life of these artists, but into their thoughts and emotions. From Leonardo da Vinci to David Hockney, so many great artists are known better because of the letters they shared with others during their life. However, writing letters is a lost cause. Hardly any writes to anyone any more. The only thing someone receives in the mail these days are bills, spam mail, and the occasional belated birthday card.

So why not write a letter in a slightly different, albeit more modern, way that can reach more individuals than a soul correspondent?

Therefore, no longer will I write the dreaded monthly recaps that go from one event to the next, I'll scrawl out my life through written words dedicated to you, my lovely correspondent. In these letters I hope to communicate the honesties of life, lessons I am learning, thoughts that may be considered provoking by some and boring by others, and a little window into my world not because I believe it to be important to view, but because I believe there is beauty in sharing something authentically.

And so we'll begin with February as the start of my Dear Correspondent letters that will be a reflection of life, a celebration of beauty, and an imparting of ideas. Yes, yes, this feels right and I look forward to being read by you.

Until Next Time,

Lillian Merritt
