First Friday Feature: Jessica Lichon

I believe it was pretty early on in my journey on Instagram that I discovered this amazing account called Lichon Photography. Instantly I was captivated by her stunning images, especially the ones taken in or near the water. They were utterly amazing and I couldn't wait to share Jessica's beautiful photographer here on my blog, so without further ado welcome to this months First Friday Feature.

1. Tell me a little bit about yourself.

My name is Jessica Lichon. I enjoy the great outdoors and going on adventures with my camera.

2. What go you started in photography?

My journey into the photography world started in my first year of university. I was looking for a hobby to pick up and fell in love with conceptual photography in my spare time.

3. Describe your workflow, what is unique about your process?

The location of the shoot inspires the majority of my concepts. As of recently, I have a ton of images that need to be worked on. I really cannot stand my computer. It's become painfully slow and takes the joy out of editing…

4. What do you enjoy most about creating an image?

I enjoy two things about creating an image. The first is the adventure behind the photo. The second is creating a concept that tells a story.

5. What accomplishment in your photography do you feel the proudest of?

I sold one photo as a book cover in Italy. I can't find the book cover online. However, I'm hoping to get more sales in the future with my images on Arcangel.

6. What camera equipment do you use?

Canon Mark D III. Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8 II USM Len. Canon EF 50 mm f/1.2. Wireless Radio Trigger. Tripod.

7. Is there a certain theme you try to express in your work? Why do you feel a need to share that? What do you hope people will take away from your images?

Over the years, I think my photographs have started to develop a couple of different themes. I do not have a consistent style. I tend to go after the seasons. In the winter, extreme winter fantasy-themed imagery. In the spring, I love the wildflowers that grow throughout the region, more feminine playful images. In the summer, I tend to explore my darker themed imagery of melancholy and despair. In the fall, I'm heading towards more witchy-themed pictures.

8. Where do you find inspiration?

In the great outdoors! I live in such a magical place. The location I choose to shoot at really sets the tone for the majority of my concepts.

9. Out of your images, which is your personal favorite and why?

My favourite is probably the one of me drowning in the Okanagan lake. I've always loved this picture. It makes me laugh. Thinking about jumping into the lake during a forest fire and trying to take a self-portrait… all after my ACL knee surgery. It wasn't the best idea to take a self-portrait in the water with a recovering knee.. Nevertheless, the results are stunning.

10. What is the biggest piece of advice you have ever been given? What advice would you give your younger self, the you who has just started creating?

The most significant piece of advice I've received as a photographer would be from numerous blogs that say "Just shoot". Going and trying to create images is fun. The advice I would give to my younger self would be to have fun, enjoy the process and get people to sign model release forms!
