Day 272: Living With Regrets

Sometimes you have to do the things you are afraid of doing, the ones you know you have to do otherwise you'll regret it till the end of your days. We've all been in this place in our lives and we will most certainly end up back there at some point in time. It is inevitable and unavoidable.

Regret is a very strong emotion that has a tendency to sneak in after an action has been taken or has not been taken. If asked what was your biggest regret in life, you might have a hard time picking just one. Our regrets tend to stick with us, more so than any of our victories. That's because there's something in us that knows we had the choice to choose differently and we didn't.

Life is about making a whole lot of choices, often one after another and sometimes in split second intervals. We have to think on our feet, knowing that it will impact our entire life to come, but never really weighing that consideration into the decision making process.

Allow this to be a reminder for you today. When we get to the end of life, how many regrets are you going to have to deal with? How many are you already carrying on your shoulders? Regrets are heavy, but the truth is there is nothing we can do to change what has already happened. We must learn to live with the choices we have made, while doing our best to make better choices in the future.

For me, I've come to learn that I would rather make the decision to do that which I think I might regret if I don't pick it, than live with the regret. Even though doing that thing I am afraid of might not turn out like expected, in fact, it might end terribly. But at least I don't have to live with the regret of not trying.

Trying is half the battle of living a life without regret. What will you do to avoid carrying around regrets for the rest of your life?

Until Next Time,
Lillian Merritt
