Day 216: Unifying Your Heart

What happens when you become disconnected with your heart? What happens when it becomes divided and it seems almost as if you were two people? One side of your is pulling towards the future and your dreams while the other side is stuck living in the past and in your old habits. This can seem like an impossibly difficult situation but there are a few actions you can take to unify your heart.

When it comes to your heart, you are treading on very delicate and intricate ground. You are dealing with an integral part of who you are and it can be so easy to tread on it carelessly. Sometimes, you can even divide your heart and find yourself chasing two different things. The possibility of who you can be in the future and the easy of remaining who you are today. Here are a few things you can do in order to perform some necessary heart work.

  1. Protecting your heart.

Your heart is such a vibrant and beautiful part of who you are. You have to protect it from habits and situations that will be incredibly destructive for it. When we're divided between two options, usually there's one we really, truly want to head towards and we simply slip into the other direction out of habit. If this is the case, protect your heart by making it harder to slip into old habits while reinforcing the person you want to become.

2. Watching your heart.

When's the last time you checked in with your heart? It's vital we watch what our heart is doing and what it is saying. Being able to take time away from our busy schedules in order to tune in with what's going on inside, it vital to creating a unified heart. What is your heart influenced by? What is it really trying to tell you? Only during moments of rest will you be able to truly watch your heart. Be sure to watch where you apply, set, direct, and draw out your heart. These are important areas to understand fully.

3. Exercising your heart.

Exercising your muscles is an incredibly important part of living a healthy life, even when it comes to your heart. You have a direction your want to walk in, you have a side of your divided heart you know is right, what exercises can you do to reinforce those desires? Continually root yourself in the passions, purposes, and people that truly ignite your heart and guide you towards your ideal life. Exercising your heart is not an easy task, especially when the old you is so ingrained in your mind. Working constantly at reinforcing your ideal life is important in creating unity inside of you.

4. Feeding your heart.

Just like exercising, if you want to be healthy you have to eat the right things. Pay attention to what you're feeding and what you aren't feeding. It can be so easy to ignore important areas in our lives that are draining us physically, emotionally, and otherwise without us even realizing it. Sometimes we're feeding the wrong things, we need to take a closer look and begin to feed the things that are truly important to us. It can be hard at first, but soon the old ways will begin to die off as your new self takes shape.

5. Unifying your heart.

A house divided cannot stand. This famous quote by Abraham Lincoln (originally found within the Bible) goes to show just how important it is to be unified, especially in yourself. As you practice the above four areas, the division in your heart will begin to fade. The direction your deepest core and heart goes is up to you. Every choice you make, thought you think, and action you take will lead you either towards or away from the life you really want to be living. You have the power to become everything you've ever wanted to be or undermine your attempts and keep yourself right where you are. Use your power wisely and remember, no matter how long it takes . . . keep coming back, over and over, to your deepest desires and your truest form.

Until Next Time,
Lillian Merritt
