Day 363: This Is Who I Am
My name is Lillian Merritt, I am now nineteen years old. I was born and raised in a small town in Oklahoma, but currently live within the gorgeous hills of the east coast. There are so many beautiful moments in life and I am honored to have been able to witness so many. In this post I want to share a little bit about me, as I did a year ago when I first started this 366 day blog post challenge.
Life is the most beautiful to me when time seems to slow down within a moment and you are aware of that second and that second alone. This can happen at any point, with friends, while traveling, seeing a sunrise, etc. These are the moments that I live for and chase after in everything that I do. They are a reminder that I am alive and living this very second.
My heart longs to create stories in many different forms. From telling stories with my movement through ballet and other forms of dance, showcasing a story through visual imagery and narratives, or even telling a story through writing both in fiction and nonfiction. Story is what my heart craves for and longs for. It is what I attempt to bring to other people's lives as well through all that I do.
That way my stories can bring people together in a beautiful community. This maddeningly profound word, community, is all that I hope to create with all the years that my feet walk this earth. I want to build a place where people can come to find comfort and support. Where they feel understood and able to express the emotions they are feeling.
One of my favorite ways to tell a story and create a community is through my photography. By creating fine art photographs that are intended to be printed for long term admiration, I am able to create a single frame of story that communicates emotions and a specific narrative. Using myself as the model helps me to embody the characters I am portraying and represent the emotions in the best way I know how.
I've been building up my photography business for seven years now and I have begun plans for branching out in different directions. Including video series, shooting musicians albums, and striving after my goals with even more dedication. I cannot imagine my life without photography and I hope to one day be able to support myself with my creations.
All in all my heart desires after the feeling of being alive and creating stories. My passions have brought me this far in life and I look forward to the journey ahead of me. I want to live each day as if it were a mighty adventure, like it is, and go in the direction of my dreams. There are so many goals I desire to accomplish and I am keeping my eyes on the horizon.
My life is nothing without community, story, and that flare of being alive. I hope to chase those things till my very legs give out.
