Day 347: Who's This Man - Album Cover
Working with musicians has always been a dream of mine. Ever since I began photography in 2013, I’ve wondered where my career would take me and what sort of paths I would end up walking down. One path I’ve always wanted to venture on was the journey of creating album covers for musicians.
The idea of being able to create a piece of art that communicates the story their voice or music tells is a captivating venture, one that I have wanted to step into more than I have in the past. Early this year I decided to dedicate as much time as I could to my photography business and really work on building it up.
This led me to look at different musicians I could contact to see if they were in need of an album cover and I cannot tell you how shocked I was when I discovered one of my favorite artists lived in the same town as I do. It was an instant realization that I had to reach out and just see if the musician, Joseph O'Brien, would be interested in collaborating for a cover.
Taking that first step in reaching out was all it took to spark a connection and create a stunning image that represents Joseph’s beautiful song. From the first moment until now, everything has just gone so wonderfully and I could not have asked for a better person to photograph. It was an absolute delight working with Joseph and being part of his creation process. Stepping out can be an incredibly scary thing to attempt. The world is filled with so many unknowns and from our comfort zones it can be daunting to take that first step. However, we must take risks in order to progress in our journey. Had I not taken that first step in messaging Joseph, I never would have had the opportunity to create an image for him. I had to face an unknown and say "no matter what happens, I will be confident enough to put myself out there".
Step out past your limitations and see how far you can go, you might be surprised how far that truly is.
