Day 327: Don't What You Don't Want To Do

Life is not always about having fun, living it to the fullest, or even enjoying ever single second of it. There are many things in life that are tiresome, annoying, and yet necessary. When it comes to those things, we must learn an incredibly valuable way to handle them. And that is to simply do them first.

How often do you put off the hard things in life? Probably quite often. It is in our nature to put off that which we do not want to do. It's easier and it allows us to spend more time doing the things we really truly want to be doing. But there are just things in life that we cannot ignore that we should be doing first.

When we put off the things we don't want to do, we're just delaying the inevitable. Eventually we are going to have to get to the those things and cross them off of our to do list, no matter how much we really truly don't want to do them. Therefore, it is far better to just get over with it and get it out of the way. That way, you have all the rest of the time to do what you enjoy doing.

This is a lesson my parents have always tried to get me to learn in life from the very beginning. It applied to doing math at first, but it is the same for the rest of our lives. Putting it off and dragging it out will most likely just waste more of your time. You'll take longer with other things to avoid that one simple task and before you know it, you've wasted a lot more time than it would have taken to do the simple task.

Get it over with, just do it and then the rest of the day if yours for the taking. It could be an all day task or a two minute task. Whatever it is, you will feel lighter and more willing to take on the day when you don't have it constantly hanging over your shoulders. Doing what you don't want first is the best way to get through your day in a productive and accomplished way.

Until Next Time,
Lillian Merritt
