Day 310: July Recap

Oh July, where on earth have you gone? I do believe I begin each of these recap blog posts with a lament that the month is past and we're heading even closer to the end of the year. How can it already be the end of July and the beginning of August? It does not seem possible and yet here we are.

July was one of those months were nothing of significance really happened, it was slow and it was rather boring. Two things happened that were truly exciting, but other than that there's not much to say about this particular month. It was not a July I will likely write about in my journal for years to come because it was so spectacular. It just wasn't like that.

The two main things that happened that I am really very excited about is that I got accepted into a gallery exhibition for the end of August that will take place in Glasgow, Scotland and I am shooting the album cover for a musician. These two things truly made my entire month and happened right up at the end.

Another rather large thing that I decided on was that I would be going back to college in January of 2021 and finishing my Interdisciplinary Associates Degree. Which is both exciting and daunting because I made the decision to create seventy images before the end of the year. That way I have two images to post a week until January and one image to post a week for the first semester back to school.

This all began a slow decent into creative block, the absolute bane of an artists existence. It started from the sheer pressure of creating so much and it is such an awful thing to experience. I haven't been happy with anything I have created and the photoshoots have gone terribly. Over all I have no motivation, inspiration, or drive to create. And when creating makes you truly happy, that's a hard place to be in.

But I am trying my best to overcome and hopefully August will be a better month for me creatively. But I have managed to create three images a week so far and the ones I have created that I have no shared are truly out pretty good, so I am excited about sharing those at some point in the future.

Anyways, July is over and I do not cry to see it go. I turn my eyes to August and the possibilities this new month will hold. I can only pray it will be a kind month.

Biggest Lesson Learned: Sometimes you need to give yourself a rest.
Favorite Moment: Getting with a musician to begin work on creating his album cover.
Summed Up In One Word: Over.

Until Next Time,
Lillian Merritt
