Day 258: Making Little Choices

It can be really hard to get out of a rut if you feel as if you are stuck there. We can often feel as if everything is working right and we're smashing our goals, when suddenly we allow ourselves to slip back into the old ways. Recovering from relapses into our old way of living can be the hardest to overcome.

When such things happen and we begin to drift away from our ideal routines and life style, the best thing we can do is simply to realize what is going on. It's hard to live a certain way that's different from how you have lived for so long, there will be times where you fade away from it. That's okay, it happens to the best of us.

But those that are the best have made a decision to dedicate themselves to being more than they are now. They have dedicated themselves to working towards their dream life, day by day, with every small decision that must be made. Every single day of our life is a series of decisions that will have lasting impact on the rest of our lives. The important part is what we choose when we face a decision.

In the case of getting out of a rut, it can be so easy to make the choice of going "oh well" and moving on to the way your life always has been. That's the easy choice. The hard choice, but the most important choice you can make, is to get up and try again. Reaching your dream life will always be about making the hard choices, especially when you don't want to.

That is the key between succeeding and failing, the choice of getting up and trying one more time for as long as it takes. As long as you can make that choice, there is hope for you. Every day of your life starts with a thousand decisions to make, what to eat for breakfast, whether or not to make your bed, etc. Every morning you have the choice of dedicating that day to the future life you want to be living.

And you know what? Every time you decide to do the hard thing and keep pressing ahead you are stacking little victories on top of victories that will eventually reach the stars and your dreams. Never underestimate the impact of the smallest decision and even doing the smallest of things. One pushup is better than none, writing one sentence is better than not writing, and so on. So when you are stuck in a rut, make one small choice in the right direction and keep making them until you're up and on your way forward.

Until Next Time,
Lillian Merritt
