Day 237: Writing Letters To The Future

Who do you imagine you'll end up being in the future? It's impossible to think we will remain a single person throughout the entirety of our lives. We are constantly changing in our like, our dislikes, our personality, our dreams, etc. and that's the way it should be. Imagine how boring it would be if we remained the same exact person we are now. So who do you think you'll be in a year?

It's hard to imagine what life will look like in a year. As we've seen this year especially, the most unexpected things can come up and none of us expect them. If you told me this time last year a worldwide pandemic would be released and shut down everything for weeks on end, I really wouldn't have believed you. Life can happen quickly and completely out of the blue. But for now try and imagine where you'd like to see yourself in a year.

One year from the day I am writing this would be May 18th 2021, where will you be at that point in time? Who will you be? Who do you want to be? I would like to challenge you to complete a simple, yet very insightful exercise based off of the realization that we will be a completely different person in a single year. I want you to write a letter to yourself, seal it, and open it one year from the day you wrote it.

But more than that, inside this letter I want you to write for however long you need to about all of the things you want to see happen in a year. Write it from the perspective of having accomplished all this beautiful things. Physical things, emotional things, mental things. Write about all the projects you've completed, write about the relationships you've established and the ones you've made amends in, write about the better mental state you've found yourself in. Whoever you see yourself become in a single year, write from their perspective.

You can become whoever you desire to be, but the first step to becoming that person is figuring out exactly what you have to do to get to that point. If you begin showing up as them right now, you will begin the process of shifting into this new version. Writing this letter to that future version of who you are starts the journey of becoming them. Nows the time to become you.

Until Next Time,
Lillian Merritt
