Day 208: Navigating Disappointment
Dealing with disappointment is a huge part of life that one must deal with. Especially now with seeing how 2020 is turning out to be, which is unlike anything anyone expected. The coronavirus has affected everyones life in one way or another and has led to a vast amount of disappointment in which we have to learn how to maneuver around.
Disappointment is a feeling of sadness or displeasure caused by the nonfulfillment of one's hopes or expectations. We all have expectations for everything we go through in life, its part of being alive. There is an outcome we all hope for in every situation we face and the way around disappointment is not to expect less from life. That will never fix anything in the long run.
It is totally normal and understandable to feel disappointed when plans do not go according to schedule and when expectations are not met. There will be many things in our lives that are disappointing. We can probably all agree that somewhere along the way, 2020 become a very disappointing year because it was not the roaring start of a new decade. It has been completely different from anyones expectations and you know what, that's okay.
We need to remember that we do not have a roadmap for our life. There are just too many things we cannot control, such as a pandemic, and we cannot allow every bend in the road to throw us for a ride. There will be disappointments and we have to give ourself time to work through them, but there is a need for flexibility in our life.
Without the ability to be flexible, our worlds will take a hit every time we face a disappointment until we shatter. Having something not meet our expectations or fail to come into fruition is not the end of the world. It may feel like it, but it is not. We have so much more life ahead of us, we need to remember to continue on forward.
Maybe the path we were walking down wasn't the right one for us and this disappointment pushed us over onto the right path. When you encounter a disappointment try to look for the opportunities that just opened up because of it. Who knows maybe it is a blessing in disguise and we were too busy being disappointed to realize it. Never take for granted the barriers that are throw at you, they may be leading you towards a far better prize.
Until Next Time,
