Day 150: Finding Inspiration

Inspiration can be a tricky thing to strive after. It is everywhere, yet nowhere at all. No matter how hard you look it seems as if you can never find it and whenever you sit back, it seems to always find you. However, when it is necessary to find inspiration, how does one go about cultivating it? Here are a few areas to look towards when you are in need of inspiration.

  • Music

One of my favorite ways to find a good dose of inspiration is to simply turn on music. With every verse and line, you might be surprised at how much inspiration one could find. Searching for new music and artists, is a great way to inspiration because you will be wandering into new territory which is always likely to spark your creative juices. Some of my favorite artists are NF, Sleeping At Last, James Arthur, Dean Lewis, and Ben Platt.

  • Books

When in doubt open up a book. I cannot tell you how inspiring a book can be, both fiction and nonfiction. Depending on where you need to be inspired, all you have to do is turn to a trusty book and discover a whole new world of ideas. Also never forget the charming qualities of fairytales and folklore, there are thousands of sparking within those pages just waiting to be discovered. Some of my favorite books are Jane Eyre, Dracula, Dream Year, and the Keeper of the Lost Cities series.

  • Poems

Poetry is the language of the soul. There are so many beautiful poems in the world. All you have to do is search them on google, open a book, or find them on Pinterest. No matter how you find them, they can hold some of the most inspiring words to ever be seen. You can literally see worlds in front of you when you read poetry and it opens up your mind to meaning that you never would have considered before. Some of my favorite poets are Robert Frost and Edgar Allen Poe.

  • Inspirational Quotes

Much like poems, except usually more practical and applicable, inspirational quotes from a wide variety of movers and shakers are always filled with inspiration. This can be a great area for you to look to if you are needing inspiration in your everyday life rather than in a particular craft. They can be the fuel that flans your flames even higher than before. Never underestimate the power of a moving quote. Some of my favorites quotes come from many founder of the United States, they are truly inspiring to say the least.

  • Pinterest

The epitome of inspiration in every form. From quotes to poetry, illustrations to architecture, you have literally every form of inspiration on this single site. However, careful where you tread because it can be hard to come up for air once you allow Pinterest to devour into your time. I absolutely love looking at paintings and digital art on Pinterest to help inspire some of my photographs.

  • The World

While poems, music, and Pinterest are all wonderful sources of inspiration (not to mention all the other areas I did not mention, such as movies, paintings, and documentaries). However, the best resource for inspiration is simply the world. You would be surprised at how much you would uncover if you simply opened your eyes and witnessed the world around you. This is my favorite area to find inspiration in, the people, the nature, the conversations, the clouds, the light, the color. It is all so beautiful and inspiration.

Finding inspiration in the world is much like dropping a rock into a puddle of water. It causes a ripple that continues to echo throughout the water. For when you open your eyes to the inspiration around you, you will begin to see inspiration everywhere and in everything. When you lack the motivation and inspiration, be sure to look up and around. You may be surprised at how inspiring you find the world to be.

Until Next Time,
Lillian Merritt
