Day 188: Making Progress

Growth, evolution, progression, change. These are necessary aspects in everyone’s life, especially an artists life, without them there is stagnation which leads to deterioration. If we are not moving forward we are moving backwards, even if it feels as if we are standing in one place. Not progressing means we are standing still while time continues to move on without us.

Avoiding change and growth will tear away at the progress we have made thus fart reducing us to where we used to be. We must always move forward if we do not want to move backwards. In order to move forward, however, what has to be done? One must understand where they are coming from, their current position as well as their personal history. When we know from which we are coming, we can better understand where we want to go.

Progress needs a direction, we must start by walking in some sort of direction even if our path gets rerouted later on. A journey has to begin somewhere and our previous steps will help us to understand which direction that should be. Three years ago, I created the below image, it seems like only yesterday since I first posted it. In an artists life, there will be images that are just different from the other ones. There’s something about them that stands out and touches the creators heart in a way the others don’t.

These are turning point pieces that directly influence the direction in which the artist walks, they influence the process of growth. Saorsa was one of my turning point pieces, I created it and something was just different. It was the first piece I was truly proud of and felt right. It guided me forward and has led me to where I am now. I will forever be grateful for all of the images I have created because they build my foundation and by understanding them, I can understand where I want to be in the future.

I encourage you to share a piece of your work that was a turning point for you. Tell your story of progress and inspire others to continue on their journey because one day you will create something that just feels right and it will motivate you for years to come.

Here are a few other images from previous years aligned with newer images that resemble them. Progress is something that should be celebrated and considered often. Without the images on the left, which I am still incredibly proud of, I would never have been able to create the images on the right. I cannot wait to see where I will go next.
