Day 166: The Hard Thing

Letting go can be an extremely hard thing to do. It is a pivotal point in our lives that can lead to a lot of pain yet a lot of unforeseen opportunities. And unfortunately, more often than not, the thing we need to let go of is the thing we want to hold on to the tightest.

We have all had to let go of certain things throughout our lives. Sometimes we were forced to let go through situational factors and other times it is through purposeful dedication that we come to let go. It is never easy and can be one of the hardest things we end up doing. Our fist can get so tightly wrapped up in something, we become unaware of how detrimental it is to us.

Not everything in our lives should be in them. Not everything we think is good for us is actually good. Not everything we do leads to our overall happiness and contentment in life. There are simply things we do, people we have relationships with, and habits we have that do not benefit our overall life experience.

Making that decision of letting go can truly tear into your heart and make you grip even tighter than before. But if you know, you know. When something needs to be removed from your life for any number of reasons, the hard thing has to be done.

Take courage, though, because there will be relief and there will be freedom. Only when you have let go of what you are holding so tightly to will your hands be open for more to spill into their palms. Sometimes we have to let go in order to learn what is truly worth holding on to.

There are seasons in all of our lives and when the season is over we have to let it pass us by. We have to learn to let go of what no longer belongs in our lives and in our hearts. It can be the most painful thing you ever do, but it can lead to the most amazing blessings you could never have imagined before.

We have to learn to let go of the things that no longer fit into our story line and accept the beautiful, beautiful freedom that comes after.

Until Next Time,
Lillian Merritt
