Day 98: Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow

In just a few hours we will transition into not only a new day, but a new year and a new decade. 2019 will fall into the recesses of time and we will move into a new year filled with new possibilities and opportunities. This is a chance to start fresh and to look back on all the amazing moments from this last year.

When a new year comes around it is a cause for celebration. We have completed another year of our life and have added it into the pocket of memories we keep. No matter how good or bad your year was you will continue on to the next one with memories from the last 365 days. Memories that will last for the rest of your life.

Memories are such a beautiful part of life. They allow you to look back on the moments that have already happened and relive them again and again and again. While it is never wise to dwell too long on the past, it is important that we take the time to remember all that we have made it through. The good and the bad.

As the clock ticks down the seconds until 2020, take a few moments to reflect back on the twelve months you just made it through. I feel like we often skip the reflection that should come with progressing in time. As soon as the clock reaches midnight we are on to the next year and the next goals and the next things, etc. We rush forward as soon as we see that a new year has begun.

Try to avoid that this year. Take the time to review the life you have lived. All the memories that have come with this year and feel free to write it down. Never forget what you have come through in order to get where you are. The future may be where you will live for the rest of your life, but the past is where you have come from. It is such a beautiful things to look back on.

What was your favorite moment from this year? Out of every single thing that happened, can you pinpoint an exact memory that stands out above them all as being the best? Always recognize the moments you were filled with the most joy, these show you where you should focus your attention in the future. Joy needs to be cultivated, allow 2020 to be the year you focus on cultivating the most joy.

What was your least favorite moment from this year? Out of all your memories, what is the most painful or disheartening thing that happened? While it is never fun to remember the not so good times, it is vital that we allow ourselves to process what happened and heal from it. Before we slip into the new year, recognize the pain, feel it, and allow it to slip from your hands. 2020 is not the year for your pain. Let it leave you.

In a few more hours we will enter into a new decade, a new year, and a new day. Allow this time before then to be a chance to reflect on your memories from 2019. Reflect, learn, honor, and let go. Tomorrow is a new day and a new beginning, but never forget the yesterday that made you who you are today.

Happy New Year! I pray you have a blessed 2020!

Until Next Year,
Lillian Merritt
